Clay Shirky on cognitive surplus

Clay Shirky talks about how there is a latent desire and untapped resource to contribute to the acquisition of knowledge – the processing of information from many sources – that would have been impossible without volunteer effort. He goes on to discuss Ushahidi and the open source platform that has developed to enable ordinary people with ordinary devices (usually phones) to contribute their experiences (in this case of natural disaster, or strife) to a resource base mashup that allows others to consider response.
