Paul Adams on real social networks

This is a fascinating set of slides that builds a picture of the complex social network that we all inhabit and notes that the virtual social networks that we use do not match them. The latter are not granular enough and arev not predictive enough for real value to be asigned to them. This value will increasingly be required by internet marketeers if there influence on behaviour and choice is to be successful.

The question of how to become an influencer of note is raised; the nature of the person at the hub (the facilitator) is considered; and the tiered nature of our virtual “friends” is exposed. It is up to us to consider the importance of this in terms of identity and privacy.
